At a glance
Every requisition uses one of two assignment modes:
Auto-assign — qualifying submitted workers are turned into assignments automatically.
Manual-assign — submitted workers are reviewed first, and the hiring team creates assignments by hand.
What auto-assign does
When auto-assign is enabled, The system checks each submitted worker against the requisition requirements and creates assignments without manual review. In practice this means:
Qualifying candidates are assigned the moment an agency submits them.
Agencies cannot submit more candidates than the requisition still requires.
Fulfilment is typically faster, but the hiring team has less control over individual selections.
What manual-assign means
When auto-assign is disabled, agency submissions are queued for review. The hiring team:
Reviews each submitted worker against the requirement.
Manually selects and assigns suitable workers.
Reviews submissions from multiple agencies — each agency response can contain up to 10 workers, or the requested quantity if higher, in the submission dialog.
How many workers can be submitted?
For manual-assign requisitions, the submission dialog allows each agency response to contain up to 10 workers, or the requested quantity if higher. For example, a requisition for 3 workers allows 10 workers per agency response; a requisition for 15 allows 15. Hirers can receive more submissions in total because this limit applies to each agency response, not the combined submissions across agencies.
The limit applies when agencies submit or amend their response and counts the selected workers in that response, excluding workers whose assignments have been cancelled. With auto-assign, agencies cannot submit more workers than the requisition still requires.
When to choose auto-assign
Auto-assign works well when:
Submitted workers can be accepted automatically as long as they meet the requirements.
You need fast fulfilment, for example on high-volume or short-notice roles.
Agency submissions do not need detailed manual review before assignment.
When to choose manual-assign
Manual-assign works well when:
Worker suitability needs human review before assignment.
Multiple agencies are likely to submit candidates and the team wants to compare them.
You want explicit control over who is assigned, for compliance or quality reasons.
Changing the assignment basis later
If you have permission to amend the assignment basis, you can switch an existing requisition between the two modes.
Open the requisition and select Actions at the top right.
Select Switch to Auto Assign or Switch to Manual Assign, depending on the current setting.
Select Yes to confirm. The system records the update in the requisition activity log. Switching to auto-assign does not itself create assignments for workers already submitted.
Check before changing
Before switching, sanity-check the requisition and let the team know:
Before switching to auto-assign: confirm requirements, rates, dates, quantity, and worker validation rules are correct, so qualifying workers are auto-assigned as intended.
Before switching to manual-assign: make sure the hiring team is aware that future submitted workers will need to be assigned manually.
For agencies: what each mode means for you
If you work for an agency, the assignment basis affects how your submitted workers are handled:
Auto-assign — qualifying workers can be assigned the moment you submit them, and you cannot submit more workers than the requisition still requires.
Manual-assign — the hiring team reviews your submitted workers before deciding who to assign, so submission does not guarantee an immediate assignment.
The assignment basis can be changed by the hiring company, so the same requirement may behave differently if it is switched later.
