Assignments Overview

What assignments are, how they are created, and how they move through the workflow

Written by Austin Brummer

What an assignment is

Hirers and agencies can add Region and Sector using the assignment table column picker. Both columns are unchecked by default and display the region and sector names stored on each assignment. Your column selections are saved for subsequent visits.

An assignment is the live work record for a worker. It links the worker to the company, project, site, agency, trade, dates, shift pattern, rates, cost code, documents, timesheets, comments, and activity history.

How assignments are created

  • From a requisition when a submitted worker is assigned.

  • Automatically from a requisition when auto-assign is enabled and the submitted worker qualifies.

  • Directly from the Assignments page, when your role has assignment creation permission.

  • By cloning an existing assignment, when clone permission is available.

  • Through a replacement request for an existing assignment.

Typical lifecycle

  1. Pending: the worker has been assigned but their start has not been confirmed.

  2. Confirmed: the worker start has been confirmed and timesheets can be managed.

  3. Completed or Ended: the assignment has reached its planned end or has been ended early.

  4. Cancelled: the assignment has been cancelled and normal actions are restricted.

Access and visibility

Assignment access depends on your role and relationship to the company, project, agency, or MSP company list. Some data, such as rates, billing fields, worker details, and document actions, can also be restricted by company configuration or access control.

For agencies: your view of assignments

An assignment is the shared record both the hiring company and the agency work from once a worker is placed. If you work for an agency, it is where you confirm starts, supply documents, and track timesheets for your placed workers.

  • You see assignments for your own workers, on companies and projects your agency has access to — not assignments belonging to other agencies.

  • Most assignments reach you from a requisition when one of your submitted workers is assigned. Your agency can also create a direct assignment for an active worker on a connected client project when that client enables Create Assignment under Agency Actions. The hiring company can create one naming your agency.

  • Which actions you can take — such as confirming a start, ending an assignment, amending dates, or requesting a replacement — depends on the permissions the hiring company has granted your agency and on its assignment-action configuration.

  • Some internal rate, charge, and billing details can be hidden from agency users by access control.
