Open a trade
Select a trade from the Trades list to open its detail page. The page header uses the trade display name, which can include company-specific display logic.
Tabs on the detail page
Overview stores the trade description, minimum worker age, tags, and active status.
Rates shows matching rate data for the trade when rates are not hidden by access control.
Logs shows activity history for the trade record.
Overview tab
The Overview tab shows the trade name, company, description, minimum worker age, trade tags, and active status. Company Admin users can rename an existing trade, while the company field remains read-only. Trade tags are optional unless a mandatory trade tag exists for the company.
Read-only fields
The company field identifies the company that owns the trade and cannot be changed from this page.
Updating a trade
Users with trade edit permission can save changes on the Overview tab. Company Admin users can rename the trade and update its description, minimum worker age, and active status. When Save is selected after changing the name, a confirmation dialog explains which current records are updated and which historical documents retain the previous name. Trade tags are available when trade tags exist for the company, and at least one tag is required when any company trade tag is mandatory.
Renaming a trade
Company Admin users can change the trade name from the Overview tab. Saving the new name updates current requisitions, assignments, rate cards, competency records, and dashboard data that store a denormalised trade name. Invoice and credit note PDFs that were already generated keep the trade name recorded when they were created.
Minimum worker age
Choose a minimum age from 16 to 30 when workers must reach that age before they can work in this trade. Choose No minimum age when the trade has no minimum age requirement.
The age check uses the requisition start date.
Agencies cannot select a worker who will be below the minimum age on that date.
A date of birth is required for workers submitted to a trade with a minimum age.
The API checks the rule again when an agency submits a worker.
Save behaviour
The Save button is enabled after a supported Overview field changes. If validation fails, the form marks required fields so they can be corrected before saving.
Active status
Use the Active toggle to mark the trade active or inactive. Inactive trades remain available for review and historical records, but active trades are the ones intended for normal new work.
Tags
Trade tags can be selected from the company's trade tag set. The server validates that submitted tags belong to the same company and use the trade resource type. If a mandatory trade tag exists, the trade cannot be saved without at least one valid trade tag.
Description updates
The description can be used to clarify how the company uses the trade. When saved, the updated description is also written to embedded trade objects on assignments and requisitions so detail views continue to show current trade context.
Rates tab
The Rates tab appears for existing trades unless rates access control hides rates for the user. It shows matching rates for the trade and company. Users with the right rate access can update hourly, day, and piece-rate values from the table.
Rate editing from a trade
Clicking an editable rate row opens the rate detail dialog. The dialog includes the trade, region, sector, selected pay type, selected rate type, and a reason field for the change.
Logs tab
The Logs tab shows trade activity history for the trade. Saved overview changes are tracked against the trade record.
Where saved changes apply
When a trade is updated, the system refreshes embedded trade names and descriptions on assignments and requisitions, and refreshes trade display names on related rates, competency matrices, and dashboard rollups. Previously generated invoice and credit note PDFs are not rewritten.
When to review related setup
After activating a trade, check whether rates exist before users raise work against it.
After changing a description, review active requisitions or assignments if the description is operationally important.
After changing tags, check saved filters or reporting processes that rely on trade tags.
After rate edits, confirm whether downstream requisitions, assignments, or timesheets need review.
For agencies: the trade detail page
The trade detail page is where the hiring company maintains a trade, so it is not part of an agency's normal workflow.
Editing the description, minimum worker age, tags, active status, and rates on a trade are hiring-company actions; agency users work from the reference Trades list instead.
The detail you care about, such as the minimum age and rates that apply to your workers, flows through onto your requisitions, assignments, and timesheets.
If a trade's description, minimum age, tags, or rates need changing, ask the hiring company.
