Rates and uplifts
For both hirers and agencies with the relevant amendment permission, hidden rates do not prevent keeping an eligible original rate or choosing an eligible rate card when changing trade or rate/pay type. The original and selected pay amounts remain hidden.
For hirers and agencies using assignment project-rate options, the pay preview uses hourly rates for hourly assignments and daily rates for daily assignments. Explicitly marked POA time rates display as POA. Ordinary zero and absent rates display as -. If no matching pay rate is configured for that pay type, the preview shows -; it does not substitute a rate from the other pay type. POA amendment previews keep employer costs, markup and charge at zero until positive pay is entered. These preview rules apply to hirers and agencies with rate access. No rate and POA are not offered when amending assignment rates; users with amendment permission enter agreed positive pricing directly, without an availability selector when Rate is the only option.
Day-rate assignments can have a nightwork uplift on the daily rate. This is different from overtime hours: day-rate timesheets record days or fractions of a day, not basic hours plus overtime hours, and Weekday Overtime % is disabled for daily pay. PAYE, CIS, and PSC are rate types; they do not determine whether the worker is paid hourly or daily.
For an assignment using standard uplifts, a hirer with the relevant permission can open Rate Uplifts from the Value tab and set Nightwork Weekday % or Nightwork Weekend % as appropriate. Enter 50 for time and a half: a £200 basic daily pay rate becomes £300 for one full day recorded as a night shift. Standard company or project uplift settings are not automatically applied to day-rate assignments, so check and set the uplift on the assignment itself. Select the eligible uninvoiced timesheets and future-timesheet update option as needed when saving, and ensure the relevant timesheet shifts are recorded as nights. Agencies should ask the hirer to configure the agreed uplift and can review the resulting rates where their access permits.
Use the Value tab to review assignment value, pay, charge, and uplifts. For enhanced uplifts with configured fixed costs, the Value table keeps those costs fixed and recalculates percentage costs and markup on uplifted pay; row values and the footer use the same calculation. An explicit assignment cost override also stays fixed under enhanced uplifts, with markup recalculated on the applicable basis. Assignment list and detail responses in the Open API calculate enhanced-uplift charges using the applicable company or project cost components: fixed costs remain fixed, and percentage costs are recalculated on uplifted pay. This applies to assignment financial data available to hirer and agency integrations. Users with rate amendment permission can amend rates. Rate uplift controls depend on whether the assignment uses standard uplifts or enhanced WRA uplifts. Hiring-company users with the relevant permission can enter standard assignment uplifts of -100% or above with no upper limit, including keeping or amending inherited negative uplifts. Negative percentages reduce the applicable rate; for example, -20% applies 80% of the basic rate. Agencies see the resulting rates on assignments and any timesheets included in the amendment.
The Amend Assignment Rates dialog calculates employer costs and agency markup from the project's finance configuration when project finance is configured, otherwise it uses company finance. CIS and PSC assignment employer-cost overrides are available only when the effective cost configuration has a component for that rate type. Project cost overrides take precedence over company costs, including an explicitly empty project configuration. PAYE overrides remain available without configured components. For hirers and agencies, the Assignment Value table and Amend Assignment Rates employer-cost field show CIS or PSC costs when the effective configuration contains that rate type, the saved assignment rates contain employer costs, or the assignment has an active employer-cost override, including a zero-value override. Removing configured components does not hide employer costs already saved on an assignment. If an existing CIS or PSC override no longer has configured costs, switch it off before saving a rate amendment or configure costs first. For PAYE, CIS and PSC assignments, an active employer-cost override replaces the configured employer-cost assumptions with the entered amount per rate unit; entering 0 removes employer costs from the assignment rates. The same absolute employer-cost override applies across standard and enhanced uplift bands. The agency's adjustment for the assignment trade is applied when configured, with the agency default used for other trades. An active assignment markup override replaces that resolved percentage. Both overrides recalculate charge rates and can be applied to selected unvoiced timesheets or future timesheets. Custom-rate previews shown while changing an assignment trade or cloning an assignment use the adjustment for the selected trade and project. In these previews, hirers and agencies see the CIS or PSC employer-cost field when the selected project’s effective cost configuration includes that rate type, the assignment has saved employer costs, or an employer-cost override is active. PAYE employer costs remain visible.
When employer costs are saved on a daily assignment, updating a timesheet keeps the saved assignment pay, employer costs, markup, and charge even if the current company or project cost settings have changed. If current settings would remove saved employer costs, hirers and agencies must configure costs or enter an explicit override before amending the assignment rates.
When active piece rates are available for the assignment trade, project, and rate type, the Amend Assignment Rates dialog includes a Piece Rates tab. Users can amend the piece-rate pay value for that assignment only, and can hide or show each piece rate for timesheet selection on that assignment. The input shows the resulting charge rate as a suffix. These assignment-level copies do not update the central rate card.
For hirers and agencies with rate amendment permission, saving an assignment rate change shows a confirmation with the number of selected timesheets to update and, when greater than zero, the number of current or earlier timesheets that will remain unchanged. Future-timesheet counts are not shown. The existing timesheet selector and future-timesheet option determine the updates; changing the assignment does not automatically select its current or earlier timesheets. If any unchanged uninvoiced timesheets will retain different rates or a different pay basis, acknowledge this before confirming. Return to the form to change your selection if needed. The integrity report also flags hourly/daily pay-basis mismatches, including an overridden requisition amount retained on a different basis even when assignment and timesheet amounts agree; confirm the agreed basis and rate before correcting records.
For hirers and agencies, confirmed assignments cannot be amended to POA. Use rates from new trade is disabled when changing a confirmed assignment to a trade with a POA rate. The subtitle explains why; keep the original rates or enter agreed positive custom rates instead. Confirmed piece-work-only assignments can use the new trade's rates with zero or absent time rates when an active, visible piece rate has positive pay or charge for the assignment's rate type. Assignment-level piece-rate overrides, including hidden pieces, still apply. Pending assignments can still use POA rates. When POA assignment rates are amended, activity history shows old pay and charge as POA and old employer costs and markup as -. The markup entry is labelled Markup rate.
For hirers and agencies with amendment permission, rate amendments can update future timesheets where the workflow asks for related timesheet changes. The future-timesheet option includes the first hiring-company week ending after the current-timesheet selector's upcoming Sunday, so the next eligible period is not skipped. Select any current or earlier timesheets separately.
Piece-rate amendments can update selected existing unvoiced timesheets; future timesheets use the assignment-level piece-rate copy when they are later created. Hidden assignment piece rates are not offered as new selectable piece work on worker or admin timesheet amendment dialogs, but an existing hidden piece-work line remains available when that timesheet is amended.
For hirers and agencies, assignment rate changes leave timesheets with an invoice or application for payment unchanged, including timesheets billed only on the MSP-to-client side. These assignment amendments do not raise adjustment invoices or credit notes.
Rate changes are recorded in assignment activity with old and new values where available.
Enhanced uplift changes use the WRA uplift workflow and may require a change reason.
Switch to Enhanced is available when the assignment's current project, agency, and trade resolve an active enhanced uplift configuration, including agency trade overrides. Switching stores both the enhanced configuration and the assignment's standard uplift percentages. Switch to Standard restores those stored standard percentages without changing the assignment's shift pattern.
Shift pattern
Use Amend Shift when the working days, times, or breaks need to change. The action appears only when the assignment is eligible and the user has the assignment shift amendment permission.
Bulk rate changes for hiring companies
Company administrators can open Bulk rate change from the Assignments actions menu. Filters narrow the affected assignments by project, agency, trade, region, sector, status, and pay type. Pending and confirmed assignment statuses are selected by default. Selecting regions or sectors limits the projects available in the project filter. A single bulk rate change can update up to 2,500 assignments. By default, the preview excludes assignments updated by the same bulk change method, value, and pay type in the previous 30 days. The administrator can change the number of days or clear this filter when a repeated change is intentional.
A change can set an absolute rate, add or subtract a value, or apply a percentage adjustment. An absolute rate requires an hourly or daily pay type selected in Choose assignments. The preview shows affected assignments, their original and new rates, eligible current uninvoiced timesheets, assignments that cannot be updated, and the number excluded because they received a matching recent bulk change. It does not recalculate the full assignment value or load timesheets that are already ineligible. Its CSV lists assignment references, trade names, original and new rates, and the references of eligible current timesheets.
The administrator reviews a single-use preview and must export its CSV before Apply rate change becomes available. Hovering over Apply rate change while a preview or CSV export is required shows guidance on the next step. Preview cannot be run again until a filter, rate change, or timesheet option is changed. Updating eligible current uninvoiced and unlocked timesheets is selected by default and can be cleared before previewing. When selected, a week ending period must be chosen from the available dates for the current year, based on the company's configured week ending day. The preview summary and CSV cover eligible current timesheets from that period through the current week ending, and eligibility is checked again when the background job applies the change. The background job prepares assignments in groups of 50, with progress updates every 25 assignments and at the end of each group. After all groups are prepared, a separate step saves all assignment and timesheet changes together. If a prepared assignment or timesheet changes before this step, the bulk change fails without saving any rate changes. Preparation does not mean rates have been saved; wait for the completion result. The bulk change is all-or-nothing: if any previewed assignment or timesheet cannot be updated, no rates are changed. The failure notification and history entry show the error so the administrator can investigate and generate a fresh preview.
When processing finishes, View results opens the Bulk rate change dialog on History & rollback. History uses a results table with an actions menu for exporting a batch CSV or starting an available rollback. Updated assignment records from each history entry can be exported with their trade names as CSV for comparison with a new preview. Before confirming a rollback, the administrator sees which assignments and timesheets can still be restored and why other records are excluded. Eligible timesheets are restored using the assignment's recorded rate from before the bulk change, not a separate historical rate snapshot for each timesheet. The administrator must acknowledge this limitation when applying a change to timesheets or confirming a rollback. The rollback is recorded as a linked operation.
Pay type and umbrella company
The Worker tab can show edit actions for rate/pay type and umbrella company. These actions depend on assignment permissions, company supplier-action settings, and the assignment's current configuration. Hirers and agencies with access to amend rate/pay type see rate options in the same dialog after changing either selection, including switching between Umbrella PAYE and Agency PAYE. Choose rates for the new rate/pay type, keep the original assignment pay rate, or use custom rates. Custom rates allow pay to be amended. Keeping the original pay rate or entering custom pay does not require a configured pay rate for the new rate/pay type. Whichever option hirers or agencies choose, the resulting pay must be a finite value greater than zero. Choosing configured rates is blocked when the selected hourly or daily rate type has no positive pay rate; configure that rate or enter the agreed positive pay before saving. Employer-cost and percentage markup overrides are available with any rate option, using the same rules as Amend Assignment Rates. Employer costs must be configured for the selected rate type before they can be overridden. Changing the rate type clears the previous employer-cost override; a new override can be entered in the same amendment. Cancelling the dialog leaves the amendment unsaved. The timesheets selected in the pay-basis dialog use the final amended rates. Selected eligible timesheets also reprice existing piece work using the new rate type. If a piece has no positive pay rate for the destination type, the amendment is rejected; configure that piece rate before retrying. Unselected and locked timesheets retain their history. These resulting values apply to both hirer and agency views.
Trade and competency requirements
For hirers and agencies, Change Trade is available when the user has trade amendment permission and the company's supplier-action configuration allows the change. When the competency matrix is enabled, selecting a new trade checks that trade's requirements, including project and sector requirements, against the assigned worker. The dialog shows which requirements are met and which documents are missing or expired. Alternatives and grouped requirements are shown together so a missing alternative does not mean the whole requirement is unmet.
Users who also have competency override permission can choose Override competency requirements within Change Trade. Amend the new trade's requirements for this assignment and provide a reason; Other also requires comments. The worker must meet the requirements left in place. Removing all requirements is supported where authorised. The hiring company's trade matrix and the worker's profile are unchanged. Agency users need the same override permission; permission to change trade alone does not allow an override.
Save applies the trade change and competency requirements together. Cancelling Change Trade saves neither change. Selecting another trade clears the draft override. Existing assignment or requisition overrides for the old trade are not reused when checking the new trade. The selected requirements are saved on the assignment, and an explicit override records the authorising user, time, reason, comments and before/after requirements in assignment activity. Connected reporting can use the existing assignment_trade_updated webhook as a signal to fetch the assignment's activities and competencyRequirements through the assignment API.
For hirers and agencies with access to Change Trade, selecting Use rates from new trade previews the selected trade’s pay rate for the assignment’s project and agency, using its hourly or daily pay type. The original pay rate remains visible for comparison.
For hirers and agencies, an active competency exemption for the hiring company and supplying agency also applies when changing trade. The worker does not need matrix documents for the new trade while the exemption applies. The rule is recorded in activity, and the trade change does not save an automatic empty competency override. Explicit competency overrides still require permission and a recorded reason.
Cost code
The Overview tab shows the assignment cost code. Users with cost-code amendment permission can edit it. Related unvoiced timesheets can be updated by the backend when applicable.
For agencies: which amendments you can make
If you work for an agency, the amendments you can make are limited by the permissions and supplier-action settings the hiring company controls.
Rate, value, and charge information is often hidden from agency users by access control, and rate amendments usually stay with the hiring company.
Bulk rate changes are started and rolled back by the hiring company's administrators. Agencies may see the resulting assignment or uninvoiced-timesheet rates where their access permits, but they cannot run the bulk action.
Shift, pay type, and trade changes are available to you only when the company's supplier-action settings allow the agency to make them and you hold the matching permission.
Cost code is a hiring-company field and is not amendable by agencies.
All amendments are recorded in the activity history, so the hiring team can see changes you make and you can see theirs.
